Today, I encouraged the community to pull some cards along with me. I pulled two cards: Silencing the Mind and Limitation is Power. The quotes for both of these had messages interestingly enough from the mystic, Rumi.
I am a mirror! I am a mirror!
I am not a person of words.
I am revealed when your eyes become listening ears.
Open the window to your heart and commune with me in silence.
Don't look for water, become thirsty.
Necessity develops organs of perception!
O man, increase your necessity,
so that you may increase your perception.
Together they offered one complete instruction:
The first poem says the divine is not something you hear or read or receive through words. It is a reflection. It shows you yourself. But only if you stop listening with your ears and start seeing with them. Which means dropping the analytical mind and opening into receptive stillness. Silence is the only language it speaks.
The second poem says don’t go looking for the experience. Become the need for it. The seeking itself is the obstacle. But genuine thirst; not performed desire, not intellectual curiosity, not spiritual ambition; actual necessity, the kind that feels like survival. THAT is what causes new capacity to grow in you. The organ of perception for the divine doesn’t exist until the need for it becomes acute enough to call it into being.
Integrated I feel it this way:
You cannot think your way to the mirror. You cannot seek your way to it. You have to become so thirsty for truth that a new way of seeing grows in you organically. And when it does, what you see in that mirror is not God as something separate. You see yourself as the thing you were looking for.
The silence in the first poem is not empty. It’s where the thirst in the second poem takes you when it becomes unbearable enough.
This is NOT doctrine. This is NOT practice as a performance. Transformation through necessity until the seeker and the sought are the same thing. ONE in togetherness and in union/unison.
For my work this is not abstract. This is the mechanism of mediumship itself.
